MODEL TRAIN LOCOMOTIVE BY NORTHEAST NARROW GAUGE RETOOLED TO 1:20 SCALE
"The 1:20 scale class A Climax model train kit is the latest edition to the Northeast Narrow Gauge line of model train kits."
Wiscasset, Maine - Northeast Model Products announces an new and updated version of one of its best selling model train kits - the Climax locomotive. The 1:20 scale class A Climax is the latest edition to the Northeast Narrow Gauge line of model train kits.
The Climax was the first widely-used logging locomotive. They were designed to give maximum tractive effort with minimum weight.
"Speed was sacrificed for power, and flexibility was their hallmark," owner and designer, Ted Stinson said. "Many were actually powered by a two cylinder marine engine often used in tug boats. It was literally a marine steam engine located in the cab. "
Typically, the owner of a new locomotive would request a custom cab.
"The style of the cab would depend on the weather where it would be used," Stinson said. " For that reason, almost no two look alike. So, I tried to capture the character of the locomotive."
In operation, the Climax were known for being very slow and very noisy with grinding gear noises. While it may not create a similar noise, the model is designed to use NWSL Magic Carpet drives (#8633-4).
Like every kit manufactured by Northeast Model Products, the Climax, is made entirely of non-plastic parts, including basswood and pine. The kit contains all wood parts either printed or machine cut. The cost for the complete kit is $100.00, plus shipping.
