NORTHEAST MODEL PRODUCTS RELEASES THE WATCHMAN’S TOWER
Modeled After Train Tower from the Famous Milwaukee Road
Wiscasset, Maine – Northeast Model Products announces The Watchman’s Tower, its newest addition to the cityscape of any train layout.
The Watchman’s Tower is based on a real tower located on a busy right-of-way on the route of the Milwaukee Road’s famous 100-mile-an-hour Hiawatha streamlined trains in the 1930s. The design is typical of elevated towers during that period. The people who manned the towers were there to see that no accidents occurred between cars and the high speed passenger trains at a railroad crossing.
Owner and designer, Ted Stinson says, “In an age where equipment is managed through technology, it’s difficult to remember a time when something so important as a railroad crossing was managed by one man in a tower. The history of this tower really puts it into perspective.”
Like every kit manufactured by Northeast Model Products, The Watchman’s Tower, is made entirely of wood. The main structure is birch with laser cut basswood doors and windows. The horizontal paneling is scribed basswood, and the stripwood trim is pine or bass. The finished model is 1:20 scale, making it compatible with any large-scale model train. The cost for the complete kit is $75.00, plus shipping.
ABOUT NEMODEL: For 25 years, Ted Stinson has led Northeast Model Products, a family owned business, and proudly manufactured wooden trains, planes, and boats made from Maine lumber when many businesses have switched to plastic. The authentic design and superior lumber and craftsmanship are the reason why so many families invest in Stinson’s designs. He says, "When choosing to design and manufacture my kits, I choose subject matter that interests me as a long-time builder and what I think will interest other builders like me."
